ASCO has been dedicated to its vision since 2006. Its key accomplishments include:

  • Enhancing optometry education standards: ASCO has worked towards improving the quality of optometry education by setting higher standards.
  • Publishing the ‘Common Minimum Optometry Curriculum’ (CMOC): ASCO took the initiative to establish the CMOC, providing a framework for a standardized curriculum across optometry programs.
  • Introducing the ‘INDIAN ENTRY LEVEL OPTOMETRY COMPETENCY SKILL’ STANDARD (IELOCS): ASCO developed the IELOCS, a benchmark for assessing the competence of entry-level optometrists in India.
  • Offering Fellowships in various specialties: ASCO provides opportunities for optometry professionals to pursue specialized training and expertise through its Fellowship programs.
  • Organizing continuing education programs: ASCO conducts programs to ensure ongoing professional development for both students and faculty members in the field of optometry.
  • Representing the interests of Optometry Schools and Colleges: ASCO advocates for the needs and interests of optometry schools and colleges, including curriculum standardization and establishing minimum educational standards.
  • Producing well-qualified optometrists: ASCO strives to produce highly skilled and competent optometrists who are ready to serve the public effectively.
